btw, yep, i can also see the light of this argument, and therefore i have taken the care not to generalise about this being a mainly procrastination tool just for everyone. it all depends on the “friendslist” you have, and their talk-frequency also. maybe that is why i re-iterated that for /me/ personally… because 80% of the time.. it’s just talk.

it’s odd. but my timeline is full of people who treat plurk as a chat application. there are of course bound to be some philosophical meanderings between those “chat threads”, but most of them is just talk, a chatroom that is open 24-hours, with responses waiting around Mark All Corner.

that is why i think for me, personally, it’s procrastination. because, lord knows i’m not, and most of my friends are not, looking for any philosophical discussion when we type “(s_hungry)” into the plurk box. and the amount of junk! you have got to see it to believe it. (it’s not a surprise since most of those in my timeline are from id-gmail which is basically a procrastination, junking community).

but, on further examination. it’s not merely procrastination. it’s a way to build familiarity and friendship. one-liners (no one-worders, since plurk is a one-two-liner affair to being with). but still, the one that drives me insane, the one thing that makes me procrastinate is often the mindless activity of writing “are you kidding!” and “that, i agree” and “love (s_cozy)” rather than engaging on anything remotely intellectual. but we don’t rule out gems of wisdom sprouting through the weeds, because we do have some brilliant minds on board. *is so proud of them!*

so, yes, for me, personally, it’s companionship and procrastination, which might be sad for some people. it’s odd. but true. and not to mention unsanctioned. i don’t know what the Plurk A-Team will say when they find out that we have been “chatting” on their server. i wonder whether we’re the cause of their server backing up.
